Ideas For Better Organization Of Your Garden

I always have loads of ideas about my garden - to grow a new plant, to install a new graden furniture, to form a new area, to make new pathways... but the garden isn't big enough to handle all this :) So I regularly need to think about organizing the garden in some better way. Here are some organization ideas I have got over the time:

Build "portable" pathways. If you build your pathways with concrete, they will stay there forever or at least until you get a special device to remove them. It's much better idea to build your pathways with materials that can be moved. For example build wooden pathways, walks made of tiles, gravel etc. Moving such tracks elsewhere is easy and helps you reorganize your backyard at any time. Of course it takes a while for the ground under a pathway to recover and start feeding plants, but wiht a little help from you that's not hard.

Use storage benches. Outdoor storage benches are great helpers to keep you garden organized. You can store tools, materials, seeds etc that will otherwise make your backyard crowded with stuff.

Follow the lay. Instead of flattening your backyard, use every jog in it to organize the plants, outdoor furniture, fountains, etc. This is not only cheaper but will also improve the look and the organization of the backyard.

Install a storage shed. Another way to store the garden tools, hoses and so on is to use a garden shed. The sheds are very useful and along with the storage benches can really help you get all the stuff you need well ordered.

Of course there are many other things you can do to organize your backyard better - these were just the fewq ideas I always use. If you approach the landscape design wisely your backyard will always be large enough for all the ideas you want to realize.

Comparing the different types of swing sets

Since long time I have been interested in outdoor swing sets because they are great addition to your backyard. The first quesiton I had to ask myself about the swing set was what kind is the most appropriate for my garden.

Here is what i found:

1. Wooden swing sets. They are very nice, beautiful and safe. Their main disadvantage is the high price. The ones I liked most (complete playsets with swings and other tools) costed several thousands dollars.

2. Metal swing sets. The greatest thing about them is their price - you can find decent metal swing set for less than $500! They are also very robust and can last years. What I did not like so much about metal swing sets is that they don't look as good as the wooden ones. Also, I have seen some who rusted so i think they should be painted regularly (It seems that the article I linked suggests the same)

3. Plastic swings. Most people point out that plastic swing sets are the best, but I am not sureally syre they are the real altervative. They are more expensive than the metal sets but are not as good as the wooden ones.

What's your take? Do you have swing sets or do some of your friends have? Which one is best? Also, it would be interesting to hear if there are other types of swing sets that I have not mentioned in this blog post.

There are also other great thinsg you can add in your garden - a fountain, pergolla, garden shed, alpineum... There is just not enough space for everything! I'll be happy to hear abotu your garden projects anyway.

Who Else Wants Outdoor Swing Sets?

There is no other activity that is so easy, amusing, and fun for your family like swinging outside in the garden. It's healthy and affordable way to spend your spare time and on top of that it helps you communicate more with your children or spouse.

But how can you obtain and install outdoor swings and what types are best for you? Read on and you'll find out!

Types Of Swing Sets
There are many variations of outdoor swing sets, but the main categorization is done based on the material used. In most cases the outdoor swings you are going to see on the market will be made of wood, metal or plastic.

Metal swing sets are known as the classics - and most probably you have seen and even enjoyed some of them as a kid. Metal swing sets are simple, cheap, robust and sustainable to different weather conditions. They are the perfect budget solution for everyone who likes swinging.

If you want more luxury and can afford it, you may prefer to buy a wooden swing set. They are beautiful and often more featured than the metal ones. They are also much safer for kids because they don't become too hot under the sun so touching them directly does not put the child in danger.

The plastic outdoor swings appeared on the market in the recent years and are still gaining popularity. They can compete on price with the metal swings while at the same time they can be as feature rich as the wooden sets. One of the greatest advantages of plastic swing sets is that they are lightweight and can be moved easily. Most of them can also be used indoor which can't be done with the metal or wooden swing sets.

Buying Swing Sets - New Or Used?
Of course if you can afford new swings, buy new. But buying used swing sets can save you about 50% of the price. And of course part of this saving can be lost in case you have to transport the swings at a long distance.

There is one more reason why you may want to buy used outdoor swings. Some great classic models are no longer popular and can't be found as new - the only ways to obtain one of those are to buy used or to build them yourself.

Speaking about building swing sets yourself, read through the next item:

Building Swing Sets Yourself?
It's not as hard as you may think. Most new swing sets come in kit form so there is some building involved anyway. Building yourself entirely from scratch is not much harder that than and is very emotionally rewarding. It's also a way to save some money.

If you plan to build a swing set yourself most probably you'll choose to use wood material. You'll need some basic tools like a saw and a hammer and of course screws and nails. The best way to start is by downloading swing set plans from the Web because they will contain a lot of detailed instructions that will guide you during your work.

OK, obviously I cannot cover all about building a swing set in this short article. So I invite you to visit my site about outdoor swing sets where you'll find loads of free advice and information!

Winter Ideas For Your Backyard

If you leave in the Northern Hemisphere you have probably noticed that the winter is coming quickly. The weather becomes colder, it smells of snow and the days become shorter and shorter.

What happens with your garden now? Here is what you can and need to do for it:

1. The plants. If you exclude the evergreen trees and bushes, all other plants need to be prepared for the winter. The late autumn vegetables must be picked up and put in safe dry and cool place. If you have roses and other long living flowers, check what special requirements are there for keeping them in the winter. The fruit-trees don't need special care, but if you see too much snow piled up on some branch, clean it up because it can break the tree.

2. The Buildings
You need to pay special attention to wooden and metal sheds, pergolas and alcoves. If the wood is not threated well it may rot during the long rains. If there are cracks in the wood, the water that goes inside may freeze and break it up.

Check the metal buildings for rust and threat them with stainless preparations. The little rust spots can turn into huge ones in the spring if you don't threat them now.

Visit this sheds and barns blog for more info about these buildings.

3. The Outdoor Furnishing
Pick up everything that you can keep in the house. Outdoor chairs, tables, lounges better stay in dry place. Most people leave their benches outside, but you need to follow the same logic as with the buildings - keep them from rust and rot.

One very simple and cheap method to protect benches and swing sets is to cover them with something - nylon, polythene or canvas.

4. The Pathways
Most pathways have no problem to survive the winter, but there are some things to consider. Concrete pathways which have cracks can be object of severe damages when the water in the cracts turns into ice.

The patways that are made of stones and gravel don't have this problem. You need only to clean the snow and to make sure the surface doesn't become slippery.

And don't be upset by the upcoming winter. The snow and the cold weather can give a different charm of you garden that can't be seen only at that time of the year. Just enjoy it!
